“English Fair at Summerhill School”

May 8th,2009

English fair is a time where students are immerse in English. Students from Cycle I had a really nice moment at a circus, where they had the opportunity to exchange English in funny and real context with their teachers and eleventh graders activities such as: clowns, magician, acrobats show and eating pop corn.
A group of students from fourth grade prepared a theater play named “Peggy the Pirate”, It was so nice and amazing listening and watching how good actors they are and how they performed so perfectly in English. Some students from eleventh grade presented a Puppet Show to students from second to fourth and then they went to a reading activity in their classroom where they learned about some famous tales and practiced vocabulary and comprehensively reading strategies.
It was an honor to have the visit of the Cultural attaché from the American Embassy, Miss Hilary Fuller Renner, who spoke to students from ninth, tenth and eleventh, because of our English Country Fair where she gave some cultural and academic information about opportunities students had to study in the USA, They had the chance to ask questions and listen to a native person as well.  Students moved around all classrooms to watch and hear presentations about food, culture, economy, politics and tourism in Canada, Australia, England, Scotland, USA and Trinidad and Tobago.
This kind of projects will be held during the year as well as our 2nd “Readaholic Hour” last May 19th very similar to the first one increasing reading skills and getting used our students that They can read because of pleasure and personal needs.
